Diabetes Survival Skills Class
The Diabetes “Survival Skills” Class provides persons with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes the necessary skills and equipment to help control blood sugars and maintain their health and safety at home. A two-hour class is provided weekly and is especially helpful for those who may have been recently discharged from the hospital and are awaiting a follow-up visit with their physician.
This class is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and their families through education and support from clinical staff. The topics covered in the course includes:
- General overview of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Hemoglobin A1C
- Hypoglycemia prevention and treatment
- Hyperglycemia prevention and treatment
- Administration of oral hypoglycemic agents
- Insulin administration
- Financial planning assistance
- Community Resources
To register for the complimentary class, please call (940) 764-8190. Classes are held Monday through Friday in two-hour intervals beginning at 8 a.m. Classes are also available in Spanish.
