Vaccines are also available for those traveling abroad. Travelers need to consider the need for vaccinations at least 2 to 4 weeks before traveling because most vaccines take at least 2 weeks to take full effect.

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that pregnant women protect themselves and their new babies against whooping cough by getting a Tdap vaccine.  The recommended time to receive the Tdap vaccination is between the 27th through 36th week of pregnancy. The CDC recommends that pregnant women get a flu shot during any trimester of their pregnancy to protect themselves and their newborn babies from flu.
